8.55 AM CDT 06.15.01 Plane 6/15/2001

Finished breakfast - stuffed after McDonalds Hot Cakes and a bagelwich, plus the fruit cup. It’s hard to believe that at this time tomorrow I’m gonna be on my way. Watching the inflight Friends... kind of funny but I’m not that big of a fan. It’s gonna be hard to live without any music for 10 days, I think. No computer for 12 either - that will be almost as hard. At least I don’t have to worry about doing any housework for a while, that should be a nice vaccation from normal life. Anyway... It’s too bad i didn’t get that goodbye email sent off. Oh well. I’ll try and keep a fairly up to date journal of what’s going on, but I’m only writing to myself, so i guess that doens’t matter that much.

If there is a single place i’d like to live, this is it. The most beautiful landscape in the country is an understatement. Just driving down the Interstate there have been 5 times where I’ve glanced up and just said "Wow." The best way to see stuff is a bus tour. You can move around more than in a car, and you see the most amazing things. The interstate follows along the mountains for most of the way, and they are amazing to look at. I wish you could see it, it’s simply amazing. Also, the wide open spaces are different from the state of Illinois. At parts you can look horizon to horizon and see no signs of habitation, which is incredible to a suburbanite kid like me. We also drove by Cheyanne Mountain (home of NORAD) and the Air Force Academy Already.

We’re close now... more empty space than before. We’re in the middle of the mountains now - wide open spaces and brush, then the mountains. It’s weird that 12 hours ago i was sleeping in Illinois, and now I’m in PHILMONT!

We had a presentation on the history of philmont today, very interesting, but they need a better sound system. The mics sounded all choppy. We leave at three tomorrow afternoon. It’s weird that not 20 hours ago, I was in St. Charles watching Josie aNd the PussyCats. Anyway, tomorrow begins the music sabattical, so we’ll see how i do. BTW - I’m staying "clear and copious" - but drinking a gallon of water in a 5 hour period is not a good idea in general. Time for bed, early rise tomorrow, much to do before we leave.
