Today we learned magnetism. Besides the fact that I learn a lot better going to the 8:30 lecture (the professor is SO much better), something funny actually happened.
One of the great things about magnetism is all the cool things you can do with it. You can see all kinds of different tricks that seem like "magic", but as our prof said "We do not live in a world guarded over by demons." There is no "magic" in our everyday lives, all is explainable. As a part of proving this, during lecture we saw tons of examples of how magnetism works. When explaining how cobalt magnets are strong, he was going to show how loud of a noise they smack together. He placed one inside a glass cube-type thing, to show that even through glass, the magnetic field would make enough of an effect to make a large clank noise.
Well, it worked, a bit too well. as soon as he set down the magnet, the two smacked together (from approx 6 inches apart) and broke right through the glass.
"Well, I'm only teaching one lecture today," he responded with a smirk.
This guy is great. He's energetic, he's bright, and he stays on schedule. He gets through the lecture, and he does a good job with it. He actually likes physics, he enjoys teaching it, and he's good at it.
Why why why can't he teach the 10 o clock lecture, so i don't have to get out of bed so damn early?
Sergio and meg looked really cute when I woke up this morning. They were laying on the bed next to each other, and it was just... sweet looking. I wonder if that's how I look when I'm curled up with Sarah.
I must admit, I admire his restraint. The two of them still claim they aren't going out, but even when Sarah and I weren't going out, we were more touchy-feely than they are during daylight (or, ya know, awake time) hours. (And look who jsut walked in... oh no, he's gone again). Within two weeks of our first semi-dating type thing, we were going out. They've been doing this for how long now? It seems like it's been a long time, I'm pretty sure it was pre-valentines day. And they're sleeping in the same bed, but they still claim they're not dating ;)
I'm thinking of actually making some detailed friends groups. People who want to hear about my daily life, my random ramblings, and different things like that. If you are tired of hearing about a certain subject from me, feel free to comment and say "I'm tired of all your crap about xxxx! I want to hear more about your random sexual escapades!" or, you can comment and say "Hey, that year in review you were writing? When's that gonna be out, 2004?"
For now, I'm going to try to do some work on the 225 MP, right after I take a shower. I smell, badly.
Oh, sidenote. Bazaar session should end today, so I made a nice post with all my reviewed patches (as well as the two bugfixes I wrote, tested, and got commited). I now have three contribs in the database: Bug 633, Bug 663, and code reviews. Who knows? maybe I'll even get something out of it. Although to be honest, I doubt it. The stuff I've done is fairly small compared to a lot of other things.
Oh, and for those of you who don't like my friends page spamming, feel free to skip this stuff. Mostly, I've just got a lot of random thoughts running through my head, and so I'm posting a lot. I don't know why that is lately, but it's one of those things that happens every now and then. If you'd like, feel free to drop me from your friends list, I can guarentee you I won't take offense. I know how hard it is to keep up with friends pages (mine is no exception, trust me ;)) so feel free to do whatever you have to do.
And finally, a moment of silence. For the man that I watched religiously for years, for "It's a beautiful day in the neighborhood, a beautiful day for a neighbor"... A moment of silence, for Mr. Rogers, who died last night at age 74. May he be as happy and friendly as he always was on TV.
